Redfield holder question.
I have been looking at several redfield morgan dollars... Most of the ones I have seen are either black and state the grade as MS-60 or red and state the grade as MS-65. Both also mention "paramount international coin corp." at the bottom. I have seen a few black ones that only say "a silver dollar from the redfield collection" with no mention of grade or paramount. Are these holders made by paramount but just an early variant? Daniel got me wanting a redfield and I found one that looks pretty nice, a 1890-S with what appears to be nice toning in a holder like this at a good price. It should be here before the end of the week and I will share pictures but just wanted to know what the story is with this type of holder. The redfield history is so interesting, I am excited to own a coin from this epic collection!

Re: Redfield holder question.
Just different versions of Paramount Holders, the Paramount Redfield was so popular they just started grading their own coins as Paramount, whatever else they did was just a business decision I am not party too.

Re: Redfield holder question.
I got my 1890-S redfield... Honestly I am a little disappointed because it has a few more bag marks on the cheek than I noticed in the pictures and a little bit of chatter in the fields but the toning is pretty nice. Oh well it is a good starter redfield for now and I will continue to keep my eyes open and hopefully find a good deal on one nicer.

Re: Redfield holder question.
Nice coin an a typical look for the black insert Redfield, those are lower grade and why they put them in the black holder.

Re: Redfield holder question.
Yeah I figured it was a lower grade but the only reason I got it was because it was cheap the reason being the holder was damaged where it looked like somebody left it in a very high temperature environment..... The holder had some textured melt marks from something contacting it so I wet sanded it with 1000 and 3000 grit sandpaper and polished it with some plasti-x rubbing polish to restore the holder
