2013 d dime is this a spoon or dryer dime or something more exciting?

#1 Unread post by Meki »

I'll try to follow the attachment request for posting and hopefully I've posted this in the appropriate location. I'm on a not so smart phone so lets hope this goes right.

I'm guessing this is a dryer or spoon coin, but I'm double checking with you guys just in case it happens to be something else and I just forget about it, placing it on top of a dresser and spending it at the next store run. Personally I have never seen anything like this so I've looked online and there are sort of similar kind of coins but I could be a super newbie and not know what I'm looking at. (Sigh... The hopes in still being new and not knowing diddly but believing every coin is a rare find and having those newbie dreads of not knowing enough to know if any coin at all is an error and always wondering if your mind is playing tricks on you and it's just an after print scratch or blob of rust. Smile)

Please feel free to let me know either way... I am learning.

I've attached what I hope are high quality images and enough views of this so if anyone has future questions it will clarify it easily. Please feel free to delete them if you feel they are unnecessary. I'm all about educating and learning so if it is helpful in any way please feel free to use these images if they work for you.

Thanks for not murdering me so far for being an annoying newbie.

I agree - too much detail on the OBV and REV remaining for a dryer coin.

Thank you. I thought so, but wanted to double confirm because I don't trust myself yet to not accidentally pass up something potentially amazing.

Please feel free to use the images to explain this type of coin for anything in regards to educating others, etc. if you find them of decent quality.

Meki, I have a lot of canned posts I make for newbies.

You might be able to use this to help you start to know what to look for:

Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don’t learn the coin hobby backwards.
:)
Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage or useless machine doubling, die deterioration, etc.

Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.

A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins. :)
