PCI short lived comeback tour how did they do?

#1 Unread post by TunaMcButter »

As the title suggest this is one from the PCI short lived comeback tour in 2012-13 timeline I have not sorted out when they went under, Daniel mentioned under the PCI slab listing they became dominion but dominion went belly up in 2010 so I am not sure how that fits at all.
So did they get the grade right?
the silver showing through the tone is not scratches but weirdness i think from the planchet wash the tone is a rich coppery, reddish purple, blue to blue-green and the back is just the boring silver.

Paul i think the toning comes from the holder or whatever it may have been in prior to 2012 your talking silver sitting in something for 17 years before the slab and 10 yeas since for a grand total of 27 years in some sort of plastic or cardboard I understand that some old holders and books tone coins especially some of the plastics used. So I have no idea what it was in before it went into the slab I picked this up at auction so I have no ability to know. check this eBay item number for an 86 MS 70 sitting in a PCGS holder rainbow toned 232829709868 first strike in a PCGS holder MS 70 toned 324780811156 there are some out there in the old PCI gold holders as well just have to look for them

Interesting,
If you look at the reverse of those coins that you listed, you will see some slight toning around the outer circumference....... so I really don't know what to say here. That must've been a storage issue?

possibly if you look under the word fine on the coin i posted you can see it is beginning to tone also in spots around the rim. and since the holders are not hermetically sealed coins still tone in the holders but at a much slower rate if it was not in a slab.

So did they get the grade right?
The realty of grading is that since there is nothing verifiable or scientific about it, there is no right or wrong despite what people assume.

Its like asking if I am right or wrong b/c purple is my favorite color.

Grading companies are about opinion only - their MARKETING departments make people think/talk otherwise and the money rolls in.

There are some people who understand they are paying for nothing but opinion, and will tell someone to buy the coin and not the slab.
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
