Mexico 🇲🇽 Pesos????
Should Mexico Pesos stick to a magnet? All I could find on the subject is that pre 1992 some do stick to a magnet. Post 1992 they shouldn’t. My Peso is dated 2006 and is a ten peso coin. Thank you….

Re: Mexico 🇲🇽 Pesos????
If you use a search engine to find a picture of a 10 peso Mexican coin, you will find you only have the center portion of a Mexico 10 peso coin. The center piece is nickel and therefore magnetic.

Re: Mexico 🇲🇽 Pesos????
I guess it’s made out of stainless steel. I don’t think this is just the center of a coin missing the outer layer. This is the entire coin. What I couldn’t find is Weather it should or not stick to a magnet. Does anyone know?

Re: Mexico 🇲🇽 Pesos????
Oops! I somehow missed that unlike the title here, this is 10 Centavos and not 10 Pesos!
You are correct, its not the middle of a 10 Pesos coin!
Here is a ten pesos coin. I should have seen the ¢ on yours

No, it was just how it's made, likely a cheap metal to save money.

Re: Mexico 🇲🇽 Pesos????
From the reform in 1992 until 2009 All under 1 Peso coins were minted with separate planchets from each other. Then in 2009 there was a transition where the 10C (stainless steel which you have) 20C and 50C (both aluminium bronze) switched to the punched out stainless steel cores of the 1,2 and 5 peso coins.
As far as I know all coins under 10 pesos are magnetic apart from 1992-2009 20C and 50C coins but the 1,2 and 5 pesos cores are made from aluminium bronze so only the outer core is attracted to a magnet.
Here is information on Numista about the coins in question.
