Can PCGS restore a recolored (MS 60) 1909-S VDB?
This coin is graded MS 60 Recolored by ANACS. Is is worth submitting to PCGS for restoration? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

No one can tell you yes or no, only PCGS can tell you that and you must submit it to them for consideration.

I agree with Daniel.

I don't know about restoration, maybe preservation. It's still a beautiful coin though.
I "think" (not sure) recolored in an ANACS slab, pretty much means a detailed, damaged or cleaned coin.

Thank you. It was graded by PCGS in 2009 and was rated "Genuine (97 - Environmental Damage).

I thought you said: This coin is graded MS 60 Recolored by ANACS?
Show us a picture of the entire slab.

I think the OP is saying that this coin was in a pcgs UNC detals slab and was then sent to anacs, where it got MS 60 Details recolored

...................still detailed! I wish the OP would have said that the first time.monsterbug1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 5:34 pm I think the OP is saying that this coin was in a pcgs UNC detals slab and was then sent to anacs, where it is.......................

Ahhhhh, so now I understand even better. If PCGS does a restoration, then it is a restoration, and can merit a clean MS grade, but if someone else does it they are a coin doctor. Ok makes sense now, NOT. He N, like Daniel said you can only submit it and see if they "will do that vodoo they do so well"

I don't believe (and I might be wrong) that any TPG'er are restoring any coins. So by restoring, you mean fix a damaged coin?.. or fix a cleaned coin? They can preserve a coin in it's current condition, they can't restore it back to it's original condition. If I'm wrong, someone let me know.Coin Mule wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 6:13 pm Ahhhhh, so now I understand even better. Hey US, that's what I thought in my willful ignorance but yet again I am wrong.

Yup, "restoration" and not "preservation"

Re: Can PCGS restore a recolored (MS 60) 1909-S VDB?
Restoration of a coin, buy a professional, using tried and true methods, known for decades, is a non-invasive means to rid a coin of potentially harmful and unsightly substances on the coin. Not all coins can be restored. Technically it is cleaning the coin but it is not harsh nor does it tone or otherwise remove anything natural from the coin. I can often restore coins, learning when not to is difficult. I don't do it to coins that are less than AU58 either.
So call it what you want, but if it leaves the coin original then no harm, no foul.

Re: Can PCGS restore a recolored (MS 60) 1909-S VDB?
Okay gents, I stand corrected. I have dipped some silver coins very briefly and have submitted them. They came back problem free/straight graded. So I guess that's a form of restoration. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a damaged or cleaned coin being restored. Good video Coin Mule! Thanks!
