Hey Mike ! Unfortunately this coin has been ground down on the reverse . You can see the scratch marks . IMHO .

This is not an error
There also appears to be some minor bezel damage in the images you have posted

Re: 1974 error smooth back no stamp
Someone used this as a sandpaper or something to smooth something out? I've once found a Nickel that only showed the central part of the Reverse, I put it back into Circulation not long after finding it though . . .

And if you are referring to the 9 on the front being an error, this is just where something hit the coin and damaged the number post mint. To get an idea of what to look for go to error-ref.com and send some time there. Then you can ID real errors people collect.

We see a lot of these. And while the lines on the REV are not perfectly parallel like sanding generally does to a coi, the concept that the REV was removed post mint is valid.quarrylizard wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 11:37 pm Just got my digital weight calculator today....2.95 grams,i think it was not sanded as yall say....
There is no possible way, when you understand the minting process, that a coin could leave the mint looking like this. It is physically impossible b/c of the minting process.
A die cap error is closest legit error I can think of to have a blank face, but they certainly are nowhere near as smooth (and won;t be) as the REV on yours.
No matter how the back design was removed, it was post mint.
The apparent bezel Paul mentioned also hints this cent was altered post mint for jewelry or?
BTW - form someone who regularly sands and restores old metal tools as another hobby...sanding with increasingly fine grit and then using a fiber finishing belt/wheel can make a very smooth surface without visible sanding marks.

Re: 1974 error smooth back no stamp
The normal weight is 3.10 grams, so no, not an error, grounded down.

Re: 1974 error smooth back no stamp
Defintely agree. Most the vids are short and fun to watch anyway. But you would definitely see how when a coin is minted, there is no way the REV can come out looking like yours.
