1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Help with this 1921 Morgan silver dollar, is it cleaned or polished?
Hello Coin Help U Community,
My name is Jay, I am new to the community and this is my first post on the forum. I have been watching Daniels videos and really enjoy them. I was hoping that someone on here could provide some insight on this coin. Does this look like it’s been cleaned (dipped/polished) or could this just be discoloration? Thank you in advance for your opinions and insight.
Regards,
Jay

Yes, It looks like it. But 1921 is by far the most common year and cleaning doesn't make much value difference at this point its just a cleaned circulated morgan worth bullion value + maybe a few bucks

Coin needs to be removed from the 2x2 to be able to help here.

Hey J, it is kind of hard to see the coin in the holder but there are a couple of this that stand out as it is.
1. Liberty's face is sooo wrinkly the she looks 100 yrs old
2. The wrinkles on her face have been smoothed, in other words the edges on the circulation damage are not well defined
3. The overall toning is not uniform, you can see the something has been done to the obverse field. It does not have the same
"color"/"tone" as the "devices", so that is a huge telltale
4. Now here is a secret, IF you look closely at the obverse, you will see areas or "pockets" of a rainbowlike coloration. This is a sure sign
of excessive "dipping". These products can contain Hydrochloric Acid, (Muriatic Acid), if you use it too many times, or leave the coin
in too long, the silver will react with the acid and leave that weird coloration, a sure giveaway that, yes it has been overdipped.

I may be playing devils advocate here but it isn't it pretty difficult to find coins that are 100 years old that haven't been cleaned at some point? especially ones that have been out in circulation?
