2008 D Penny with Double Ear Lobe????
Hi again everyone. We have seen the 1984 and 97 double ear penny and they are pretty obvious looking. We found this 2008 d penny which appears to have a doubled ear [lobe] and not a full ear. It seems these are hard to distinguish whether they are actually doubled or damaged especially with a shine of the coin, you get a lot of glare. This one seems to stand out quite well and would like an opinion as to whether anyone thinks this is a doubled ear lobe or just a ding, however it does not look like a ding. It would be nice to find a different year penny with a doubled ear or ear lobe. Whats your opinion.

There is one for 1988 but it doesn't look like your coin at all. Here is the Link. http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate ... _state=mds .
My first inclination is that it is a hit to the earlobe. This would be a good candidate for an overlay of an image of your coin and a regular 1988p. I don't know how to do overlays but it is a useful trick sometimes.

Re: 2008 D Penny with Double Ear Lobe????
Thanks. We have turned it just about every way possible when taking the pictures to see if it would disappear, (as most seem to play tricks with the eye) which it usually does due to lighting and glare, but this one stays the same no matter what angle you look at it through a magnifier, or taking pictures. We have found that taking good coin photos is quite challenging though. Trying to work on that also. Thanks again.

This is a contact mark, the ear isn't larger or has an extra the mark is dead in the middle of a normal ear lobe.

Correct. Actually a doubled ear would be a doubled die and that is a die variety.
