Two 1956 Proof Franklins - Different Size?

#1 Unread post by richrock »

While taking photos of these 2 1956 Proof Franklin half dollars I noticed that one appeared larger. Franklin's head seems noticeably larger as well as the diameter and circumference on the coin on the right. Is this common?

Can you post sizes of the diameters? Can't see any difference from the images.

On newer dies some details appear more pronounced when compared to older dies that have been polished.

Could this be a "Lighting Issue"?

Thanks for all your help. It might be a lighting issue since the measurements I come up with are: 30.56 mm versus 30.16 mm diameter difference and 12.5 grams versus 12.3 grams in weight difference. That seems to be close enough to be within the range of tolerances. Thanks again.
