I HAVE THIS 1988 D,AND IT APPEARS TO B DDO ALL OVER THE COIN TO ME,IT EVEN APPEARS TO HAVE A SLIGHT DOUBLED EAR ALSO...

I believe what you're seeing here is a combination of "Die Cavity Ware",
& "Traces of Reflect Doubling"...JMO
