UNCIRCULATED COINS WORTH GETTING GRADED?

#1 Unread post by dave01568 »

I CAME INTO POSSESSION boxes of coins most uncirculated please look at pictures of these coins still in plastic in a set .

I notice that sometimes there are small about of people that get coins graded and perhaps I should send coins in for grading .worth it ?

also is it the same to find a say 1990 ms69 in circulation or a 1990 ms69 uncirculated . being in circulation make it more or less valuable?

by the way the coins I have are near mint condition in plastic wrap

do I spend the money to get them graded and slabbed?

Here's a video on if you should send coins off for grading, they must grade MS67 or higher to even have a remote chance.

Daniel after watching the video I relooked at the coins in the pictures above . Some I excluded but some I’m confident they will get MS 67 or better but they are uncirculated

To get my original answer I was looking for that wasn’t answered in the video

Dose it help or take away value when they come from a uncirculated collection

Will that be factored in

I know proofs are struct differently but are uncirculated minting process different from business class?

Proof is a finish and business strikes are not business strikes are struck only once.

If they are slabbed and graded uncirculated it won't matter if they are from the mint or from a roll. But what the grading companies can "see" is amazing. There is a reason not many make the high $ money grade.
Research actual sold values before sending your hard earned $ to them.

PCGS and NGC will probably get $25-$50 per coin plus shipping to an individual collector. A company that sends a lot will get better deals.
ANACS are less expensive but don't resell for as much. I prefer ANACS slabs myself, for the ease of viewing the label for the coin.

EDIT: And remember to consider dings and marks at the rims for grading because they will scrutinize everything before giving a high grade.

i saw where ANACS offers a pretty good deal if you send in 10 coins, I think it is $119. I was thinking of sending 10 coins to them first, and then, if the coin gods are kind to me, taking all the 67s and 68s (worth at least $40 anyways, for obvious reasons) and sending those to PCGS. Is there any reason I shouldn't try this?

What I'd like to know is why ANACS, despite being the oldest company, has gotten such a poor reputation lately...anyone know? Was there some epic scandal over the years that I didn't hear about?

Because grading is so subjective they all have issues with consistency at times.
Don't know of any scandal, but ANACS seems to be a collector driven TPG. They will slab all varieties not just the ones with FS#'s.

Also part of the reason PCGS coins sell for more is because they charge more. They and NGC seem to battle over the marquee coins for market recognition. They do a lot more of high dollar coins which brings a lot of exposure and word of mouth their way.
