That really is a great article.
I like work; it fascinates me.
I can sit and look at it for hours.

Great article Daniel. Should be required reading for all people just starting to collect any coin. Hey you have to admit I am getting better about posting MD cents, or lets say not posting pics of MD here lately. Man I haven't found anything lately a few cracks but nothing. At least 4 boxes not even a good or cruddy RPM. I mean nothing. Hope you all are having better success than me.

I guess, when thinking about MD, imagine the die striking the coin and sliding a little to one side, and this at the same time. On the contrary, a DD is created during the process of cutting the Master Die or the Working Die, and before it ever strikes a planchet.

So, MD happens during the striking process. A DD occurs to the die before the striking process, and only imparts the doubled image when it strikes the planchet because the actual die itself has a doubled design.

I hope this doesn't confuse you more, it's not easy to wrap your brain around it at first. You just have to seperate the two and understand when they occur and how.

Hey dipper when you find a real obvious DD it will stick out like a sore thumb. Unfortunately there are a ton of DD's that are very minute and can be hard to see with out a trained eye and even those can get fooled at times. But generally anything that is flat and may taper from the center out it probably MD. Look at some of the other letters or lets say Lincoln's head or the memorial (devices I think they are called) on the reverse to see if there is some flat areas on them. If so, what you are seeing is "probably" MD. Of course if you have a question about a coin post a pic and Daniel or others can probably set you in the right directing. I can try but I am generally wrong. :dunno

Yes it does and it makes one go crazy at times. I know they aren't worth much more than a cent but I do keep the real dramatic MD cents, just cause they look cool.

I looked into it, I even used his account to post a new post. I didn't percieve any problems. I went ahead and updated the data base and other files just incase. I contacted Larry so I am waiting on some info from him before I proceed.
