1957 P Lincoln Cent

#1 Unread post by rugger1022 »

I found this 1957 P mint Lincoln cent while searching bank rolls. Have done some basic searching to describe what I am seeing on this coin. Not finding anything similar. Would anyone have knowledge what this might be?

Welcome to the forum. We are glad you are here :D

Just environmental staining/toning of some sort. This is not a mint error as nothing in the minting process would make a coin look like this.

Thank You.
There is a definite ridge at the dark and lighter color intersection when viewed under a microscope.

Does it have a ring of death scratched into the obverse?

THis just means that whatever made the out er areas turn dark was not able to reach the inner areas. Sometimes toning like this can happen b/c something sticky was on eht coin and later removed after the rest of the coin tones. This very well could have been a round sticker of some sort that was on the coin and later removed. People used to use tape to hold coins into coin books or to cards (savings cards fro banks) and when the tape was removed you would have the same look.

Since nothing in the minting process could possibly do this, it is just post mint damage.
