2021 (P) Kennedy Half Dollar, Gold and Ruthenium, Misaligned?

#1 Unread post by Randall Burks »

I bought this online last month just because I thought it was a cool looking coin. I've only been coin hunting/collecting for two months so I'm still a newbie. My question is about the coloring around the neck and chin. There's black on the back of his neck and the gold is under his neck and off of his chin. Is this normal or an error of some type? I'm not looking for added value. Just curious what's going on with it. (I took about twenty pictures. Lol. These are the clearest ones my phone will take.)

:?: Cool looking coin if you're into collecting this sort of thing. I'm unfamiliar with Ruthenium and Gold mixing. I truly don't see any Error here. I'm not even sure this is legal tender since it's from the Merrick Mint not the US Mint. :)

This is not an original U.S. mint product, it has been post mint altered/painted/plated by this third party company. The coloring discrepancies on this coin did not occour at the actual U.S. mint, and is therefore not considered as a mint error, just a lousy job from whomever plated/painted it.
Be careful when buying from these small third-party companies.
Edit: grammar.

I agree with all of the above.

It would be really helpful for you to understand the minting process. Here are some good videos to help with this:
