1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Found this in a collection I will be purchasing over the coming weeks--1921 D Merc High(er) grade
I found this coin in a collection I am going through and purchasing. I am just looking for opinions/advice at this point, as I usually don't deal in such rarities

Hoping my first impression is wrong and it's the PHOTOS, not the coin. My initial reaction was the design overall looks slightly off.
So I made up the following graphics with a certified one from the PCGS website. Zoom to see the descriptions of what the present PHOTOS make look wrong. Waiting for the better ones. Zoom as much as you can even beyond just clicking the pic to enlarge it if you can. The closer you are, it gets easy to the differences.
Some help for when you get the coin and want to post some in focus photos:

I agree the coin looks off from either being mishandled or not genuine. However, if you're buying a collection then I would hope you're looking at these coins in hand. If not, stay away from it!

I will be getting better pictures within a few days. The story goes on this one that it was found in circulation in the 60's or 70's. I will also try to employ better lighting as it wasn't the best with the original imageEarle42 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 1:32 pm Hoping my first impression is wrong and it's the PHOTOS, not the coin.
