1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). 20?? Shield Cent Zinc Rot? Does Anyone Have Any Idea?
In my pocket change this evening this shield cent caught my eye so I grabbed my microscope and took a better look!
For the most part I’ve learned a little bit about lamination issues and Zinc rot and stuff along them lines! But my question is what is causing this or what did cause this to remove the last part of the date and the rest of the coin pretty much be untouched? Earle42 if you have a link send it my way lol! I just thought it was cool because it look like just that spot was copper but I know it’s not and as far as lamination issues it’s not flaking or peeling or anything so I’m lost and figured I need to reach out for more info! Thank in advance for the help!

Thanks SensibleSal66!! After reading that could it be a Retained Lamination Error? Also does it possibly look as if the clad layer tore? I’m trying to gain all the knowledge I can and I really like that error-ref.com website! Great for actually seeing any possible errors with pictures!

Re: 20?? Shield Cent Zinc Rot? Does Anyone Have Any Idea?
I would like to be corrected here if I am wrong, but due to the definition of a delamination, I do not think that term can apply to a Zincoln.
From error-ref.com:
A Zincoln is plated.
It would impossible to know what happened to this cent as far as the coloring. Just too many possible chemicals it could be exposed to resulting in staining.
*Also note the next sentence on the website makes the correction that "Lamination" (putting together) is grammatically incorrect b/c the term delamination means to separate layers.
From error-ref.com:
Lamination* errors can develop before or after the strike. They are generally restricted to solid-alloy coins.

Ha, ha, ha! I love it Absolutely cheap, unattractive, unimaginative, and uncollectable in my world. Only the 2009 set in the "original composition" interests me for anything from the series after 1982, and then barely.
