1920 Lincoln Cent Possible Wrong Planchet
I have a 1920 Lincoln cent that weighs 2.54 grams. I’m not an error collector and I’m not sure what’s going on with this coin. It’s smaller in diameter than a normal cent, but the rim doesn’t look to be ground off or tampered with. It’s well worn and has damage on the obverse. Any help would be appreciated in it’s identification.

Re: 1920 Lincoln Cent Possible Wrong Planchet
This coin has been tampered with at some time. The weight loss is likely due to extreme wear evident on the coin.
A careful look at the perimeter in the picture shows it is not uniform circle indicating some tampering with the rim at some time as well. Possibly long ago and circulation wore down the evidence?
It also is not that far off of low end tolerances (2.98) that initially it could have been a bit light as well.

Thank you Sir for your help. I suspected that it had been tampered with, but the rim fooled me a little.

This coin has been intentionally altered post mint…
Keep in mind that some unscrupulous individuals will alter coins such as this to resemble a dime for use in various vending machines.
