1974 missing clad layer

#1 Unread post by Coins2Bsure »

Found this while hunting half dollars. Don’t find silver here the armored car companies use metal detectors so all the silver is sorted out. $1500 worth of half dollar searches has confirmed that. Is this an error? What do I do with it , can it be grade to increase value? Should I just wait to find and interested buyer? I don’t sell on eBay.

I very sorry to say your coin isn't missing a clad layer . It's heavily stained . Try PURE Acetone ( 100 %) and you'll see the rust dissolve . The coin doesn't look close . This Error is very rare according to this website and I'm sure others will agree .

Ok thank you. I did view it under a microscope and it does appear to be missing, also weighed it and it is at least .20 grams lighter than it should be. Wont using acetone ruin its value?
