1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.

2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.

3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.

Abbreviations

#1 Unread post by gooddie »

I've only been on Coin Help for a little while and noticed members posting questions using abbreviations. Can someone please direct me to a link where I can familiarize myself with these terms? I don't know what I'm looking for. I still don't know what AFLAC is.

Most of the unrecognizable numismatic acronyms used here are just "MADE UP" by the original posters…

I don't want to get into the reason why they do this here

At the risk of sounding rude,…
A majority of individuals proclaim that they are "Experts" in the area of numismatics. This is just what it is.

Using their 'Homemade' acronyms,… makes them feel that when using these acronyms, … rises them above their actual level of numismatic competence.

I can't believe you actually made me answer that

Thanks Daniel, very informative .
I only use a few Abbreviations , One is DEFDAM ( definitely damaged ) , PMD ( post mint damage ) and JMO ( just my opinion ) . These are just basic forum abbreviations ( abbrev ) . I'm sure there are more but can't remember off the top of my head. If there are more , please list them .
If you want to go to another site for just some info like coin community , that's your choice . I just don't recommend joining though . JMO .

Magnificent responses by all of you. Thank you so much. I'm learning by leaps and bounds. It's like sometimes things look complicated when actually it's simple after you explain things. Thanks again.

law of parsimony is the problem-solving principle that "entities should not be multiplied without necessity", or more simply, the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

Aristotle, Socrates, or Plato. Your explanations are along their lines. There is an air of distinction to numismatics.
