Is this quarter missing the clad on the obverse?

#1 Unread post by Stardustxx »

Hello Mr. Dan,

I hope you don't mind taking a look at this for me, I know time is precious but I've been trying to find out about this for a while. The coin isn't showing any copper coloring so I am confused on if it's missing clad or just damaged.

Thank you so much, have a good one.

I don't see this being a Mint Error . It appears to be Environmental Damage . Could be from anything in the last 11 years. I am noticing something at K-4 on the REVERSE though . Is that a crack or just a hair ?

It's not missing clad layer and I can't see the edge. Did you weigh it? Did you try a magnet?

Confusing wording.

"Clad" layers refer to the outer layers which sandwich an inner copper layer.

If it was missing a clad layer, then the copper layer would be exposed and you would see copper.

A normal coin NOT missing clad shows no copper except on the rim.

If there is no copper showing on the reeded edge, the coin could be plated. Sometimes the clad layers can hide the copper layer when looking at the reeded edge.
