I agree.
Please spend some time at error-ref.com. Not only will you be able to find pictures of what the actual mint errors the coin hobby values, but you will also get a better idea of what kind of varieties are out there to collect.

Just damaged. It helps to learn the difference between a variety and a mint error, they're not the same thing. Education is more important than searching coins until you get a grasp on what is what.

First I want to thank you for the reactions/advice you gave me.
Ofcourse I am studying the different appearences of errors and varieties as hard as I can, but that was why I
posted this coin in the first place:
The first error that catched my eye, was that the coin is struck off-center. I find it confusing that that error
is ignored, or is such error too common to mention? Secondly I understand from certain sources that off-centerness
sometimes is a sign for other possible errors and that is why I got curious how the horizontal 'damage' scrapes got there.
I learned that the big fun of recognizing errors is that they often look very much like damage...
The last thing that I not understand is the part on Lincoln's shoulder. (See pic) At least that is something that
cannot be a kind of damage because of it's curly shape. To me that spot looks more like the folds in a sleeve.
I understand when you think: OMG, again a tunnelvisioned dutch broad that just won't see, but believe me, I am
trying! Thanks and greetings, Eva.

Blunt force and scrapes on a coin can cause any shape, look up hobo nickels and see what can be done to a coin, damage from being in circulation or on someone's work bench has no limit to what it can look like. With that, what you're seeing here is plain damage, shape need not be considered or applied, if it doesn't happen at the mint then it's not a mint error.

A coin has to be a lot more severely misaligned to be desirable to collectors.
why I got curious how the horizontal 'damage' scrapes got there.
Please note if we were in person, you would be able to tell what I type next is just information and there is nothing negative in my attitude when I write it:
Your coin was struck and put into circulation 42 years ago...that's almost half a century. B/c you are learning and thinking about coin collecting, and are excited (as we all are about our hobby), you have overlooked the fact that for almost 50 years, this little copper disk has been spent/dropped/thrown/scuffed/hit/banged/etc. Its impossible to tell how this scratch got there. Now if Lincoln could talk :)
The last thing that I not understand is the part on Lincoln's shoulder. (See pic) At least that is something that
cannot be a kind of damage because of it's curly shape.
I am not sure why a curly shape cannot be damage? Metal can react in various ways when it takes an impact including the surface metal being moved and making a circular ridge depending on what hit it, how hard the item hit, and how small it was. This is just damage.
but believe me, I am trying! Thanks and greetings, Eva.
Which is why you are here! We all started out in a similar way when coming into the hobby. :)
