1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). This is damage from a rough surface, you can get the same effect by applying pressure on a coin while it's sitting on concrete.

Re: 1878 CC Morgan
Hey R, I agree with Daniel. Since it is a circulated coin it does have some dings and bumps. Looks almost like someone stepped on it and some stones were under it and it got those dents.
However I have an alternative, some cowboy bit it to make sure that it was a real coin, you know like they did in the old western's, in fact looking at it I think it matches Wild Bill Cody's dental records perfectly, and as such is a historical piece. Now as added value I have a signed photo of Sitting Bull to go along with the coin, that I am willing to let go for a paltry price, yesssssss excellent Smithers. You can thank me later for this free EBAY marketing advice.
But seriously, I think all CCs are cool, no matter what Paul thinks about my Morgan obsession

Re: 1878 CC Morgan
These are not carbon spots, they are gouges into the coin.
I don't believe I ever said anything negative about Morgan dollar collectors?

Ok, Ok you were talking about a specific coin, but I took the poetic license to "Harangue" you.
"I DO NOT collect Morgan or Piece dollars,.......
but being so curious about the whacked out fascination with this coin,..........
I did, buy this book, read it cover to cover, and resell it."

Re: 1878 CC Morgan
Paul, how did you know he was running a race while typing that reply on his phone?
Just adding a bit to this as I agree with the others here...
The edges of the areas in question are raised upwards . This is a dead giveaway to the surface being gouged and not just carbon spots. The black smooze tane (technical chemical term) in the craters (left by the teeth marks the Mule mentioned) is just typical dirt from circulation that needed a good home.

Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):

Re: 1878 CC Morgan
You know the grading companies - You can send them anything - If it's ungradable they'll send it back and you eat the fees
It may come back as damaged - I'm including a couple of 1878's that sold as damaged and what they got for them - Hope this helps!
