Just a note for you. Machine doubling is such a common thing that we on this forum are very (understatement of the century) familiar with it. If nothing else, the graphics should have you convinced that yours is MD. Those graphics are circulated within the coin hobby as teaching tools. I got the originals online from the hobby and annotated them to hopefully make them easier to understand - former teacher - its in my blood!

If by saying you will "confirm with the pros," you intend to send this in to a grading company, you need to understand that grading companies are about assigning a grade to a coin. They do not answer questions such as, "what kind of error do I have?"

You also will lose the fees (30.00+) and have a slabbed coin not worth what you spent to have it put into a plastic slab.

You should also know that, from experience, I personally trust some of the people on this forum more than I would ever trust a grading company. If you want something to back that up, read the PDF link in my description. It will give you a real eye opener with linked facts you can check for yourself and judge just how professional the grading companies are overall.

The important thing to note abut a DDO or DDR is that the doubled area has contoured surfaces as the same as the normal element b/c the doubled area was actually engraved into the original die. MD shows up flat, and the thinning of the devices is a dead giveaway (you might want to to compare possible MD to a coin or picture of a coin with same date/MM to make it easier to see how the devices have thinned).

Also...b/c the doubled image that was engraved into the original die can be spaced close or far from the normal position, not al DDOs and DDRs exhibit the same degree of doubling.
Look at the pictures of the famous 1955 DDO cent and you can plainly see two images of the exact same type b/c the doubled image was engraved far enough away from the normal position to make a drastic doubled effect. But sometimes the positioning of the doubled engraving was so close to the original position, you can only tell its doubled b/c the letters/numbers look thicker. Scroll down on the page at the following link to see examples of various amounts of doubling - some take a trained eye:

To get a grasp on all of this and other doubled dies, please go here and spend some time - it will SAVE you time b/c you get pics and descriptions for defining actual DDOs and DDRs:
