Hi there. I am new to coin hunting (started during COVID pandemic) and we had a bunch of dumped change that I started looking through when the coin shortage started last year. So I have found some silver, some errors, etc. So that got me started on enjoying viewing all the coins.
I then started to collect coins sets (state quarters, etc.) and have moved to Kennedy half dollars. WOW, I have a lot of DDR coins from that search mostly from the 1970;'s.
I look forward to reading the posts and what you guys interests are.

1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Re: NEW COIN HUNTER
Hi Tracy,
Here is something I like to share with new collectors b/c no one started it with me when I started out. It will save time and possible frustration:
Don’t learn the coin hobby backwards.
Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage.
Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.
A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins.
It is very common for people starting out to misidentify things like machine doubling as being an actual, collectable mint error. Taking the above approach will make you familiar with actual errors and what they look like. It saves a lot of "false starts."
