1982 pennies

#1 Unread post by KCH »

Hi Daniel,

I am new to coin collection and just started learning but I came across two 1982 D mint mark pennies that both weighed 3.07g and 3.16g. Would it be authentic. Here is the two pennies.

Hello and Welcome ! A 1982 copper penny has a tolerance of 0.13 grams — meaning that it could weigh between 2.98 grams and 3.24 grams.

But they must be small dates, these are large dates.

Thank you! I will search more pennies to see if I can get a small date of 1982 copper. So the large date copper only worth face value?

Yes, face value, but sounds like you're still confused on this. Watch my video.

Somewhere online I saw someone compare the Large date to the Loch Ness Monster. So I made this graphic and have never had a problem since. Hope this also helps.
