1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.

Hi, All.

#1 Unread post by david.smock »

Hi,

My name is David Smock. I've been a coin collector since I was five years old. I started out collecting Lincoln cents the man who would eventually become my stepdad bought me. A few years later, I found a copy of his Cherrypickers' Guide. This changed the course of my collecting forever. I fell in love with errors and varieties and immediately started collecting them.

When I was around 8 my mom and stepdad went to her (not his) very first FUN show in Orlando. I was too young to attend. While there, mom met Bill Fivaz and the late JT Stanton who each signed a program for me. Bill sent errors and varieties home for me. I sent Bill a letter thanking him for the coins not expecting to ever hear back. But, a week later, I got a response. He's been my friend and mentor ever since. I'm 35 now.

From 2016-2018 I served on the Board of Governors of CONECA, the Combined Organization of Numismatic Error Collectors of America. I have been a member of the ANA for many years and had the privilege of attending the ANA Summer Seminar on scholarship numerous years in a row as a YN and as an adult the last two years. I also joined FUN in December and exhibited my collect of Jefferson Nickels Struck on Incomplete Planchets. I won 3rd place in the Error category. I've also presented a few MoneyTalks presentations at ANA shows.

I am honored to be an Admin on the Facebook Community Coin Help Coin Grading, Coin Values, Mint Errors, Sharing.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here and not only sharing any knowledge but also learning a lot more. This hobby is forever growing and changing, and there's always room to learn so.

Welcome to the forum and I look forward to more posts. Very neat how you met Bill Fivaz and that he took the time and interest in you learning the hobby. Is that the signed photo by Bill Fivaz on the coffee table in your avatar?

Can you share an image of one of the more extreme examples of your display at FUN? Cliff

?? Daniel, I think this reply is supposed to go with another thread about nickel over struck on a dime.
