1975 D

#1 Unread post by FieldTex »

Hello All,

At the outset, a caveat. I believe there is some mechanical doubling on the coin illustrated in the attached set of photos. It seems to me though, there is more. Thoughts? I have doubt because I found no mention of this variety (if it is such) on Copper Coins, Wexler and Lincoln Resource. You will note something is going on with the E in WE, and I found the very same thing on either the 1974 or 1976. I'll find it again and mention it later, unless this has an explanation other than DDO.

This will take several emails to load the photos. I created a combined pdf file, but cannot load it. Sorry.

Many thanks for your input.

We do not allow multiple topics on one coin. Thank you.

What you're seeing on your coin is common die deterioration and nothing more.

Thank you! As to the closeups, my photos are best viewed wearing 3X cheaters after spinning in your chair for 30+ seconds. Actually my USB scope has a rickety base and a stiff photo button, and using my PC results in too much lag. I will most likely get a new one since I am out of pejoratives for the one I have.

Another example of die deterioration... I think that's about the worst I have seen in my vast three months of experience. I will continue hoping to achieve fame when my dreams of someone creating a stick figure museum become reality.

Again, thank you. I do appreciate the comments and advice, despite my attempts at humor.

I have another coin to put up, and there is no way it is normal. Good day to you.

I think you may be seeing "Reflect Doubling" on the 'E' of We......JMO

For the record.
If you have a digital camera you would get better photos. I know that for those who give the most info as to if the coin is a doubled die, clashed die do NOT like photos from a microscope. These type of photo have a bad habit of making you think there is some there, when there isn't. I can just see them cringing when anyone sass "I'll be able to get better photos after getting a new USB microscope".

If you have more than one coin you want someone to look at, you should make separate posts for each coin (new topic for each coin). This will make it easier for someone to look at and give you a more accurate opinion of the coin. Posting them in the same post can make it be confusing to follow the coins. As for posting a separate coin in the topic for comparison, those who are giving you their opinion are very knowable in what should and should not be on the coin.. Thus you don't need one. Again that falls back on one coin one topic, two coins two topics

When posting photos of a coin you would like someone to look at, you should post a photo of the full Obverse and Reverse. Try to take these photos as clear and close as possible. It would also be helpful if you could crop these photos. Next, take the photos of the area in question again as clear as possible. If you could find some way to point out the area you would like looked at. Either by using a photo editing program or give a very good description of the area. If you do not have a photo editing program there are three free programs you can get. They are PhotoScape, Inkscape and Gimp. Of all of them PhotoScape is by far the easiest to learn and use.
Again using a microscope to take photos is highly discouraged. Many times, what you see through a microscope is not really what you thought. I know they don't like telling you telling you, that you need to do the photo's again or not be able to tell what is exactly there (error/variety) or just PMD.
If you follow
