1959 dime

#1 Unread post by stevesherrill »

This is one of the coins that i received in a grab bad. I have looked it up and read about it as well. I know it has a very high mintage. I know what MS stands for as well as the FB on it. My question id this. Is this a good grade and worth having?

I tend to think so. Pretty much all dimes are available as a 65 (weak strikes). I tend to bottom out at 66 because 67FB can be hard to find / pricey - especially on some of the lower mintage.

Use PCGS price guide to look the value up.

A "good" grade can mean many things to many people.

If I owned a 1916-D mercury dime dime in EF condition, I would consider that great b/c they are rare enough that a 16-D in that condition is not only hard to find, but very expensive. Most of them you see are graded as AG orG.

Anything with an MS grade means it is mint state - indicating it has original mint luster and little wear on the devices.

Since the highest grade is an MS70 (allegedly flawless), MS66 is closer to flawless that say an MS62.

I just found a 1959 dime looks like it was made yesterday with full bands no mint mark...youtube said one like that sold for $1500 at auction. Mine has a die crack on reverse bottom of torch through the M to the edge. But otherwise stunning find in an unsearched 1/4 lbs silver bag today. Who should I send for grading?
