This “Standing Liberty Quarter” looks like someone stretched the rim around to the back and folded it over! Thoughts?
Hey guys! So this is the second coin that was listed as a silver “scrap” pile of coins. They are being shipped to me but I just couldn’t wait to get y’all’s opinion on them! Anyways this is a standing liberty quarter and I am lost as far as what date it is. I have heard of errors like this before but the name escapes me… what’s your thoughts as far as what it is, how it happens and also what date this quarter could be… also if you are familiar with ball park value it would be helpful just so I know if it’s worth grading or not Thank you y’all! Please check out the other topics I posted that have 2 other coins that came with this one( one is a peace dollar and the other is another standing liberty quarter that y’all will find interesting I’m sure.

Appreciate the feedback. Do you think this can happen naturally from just being so old in circulation and the elements or has it been manipulated?

Intentional post mint damage
May I ask "Where" did you hear that this was a type of error?

Definitely someone was playing around with tools or something else on this coin many years ago. Typical circulation damage won't do something like this. While silver is a softer metal, its not THAT soft.

Sorry I should have been more precise in my speech. what I meant to say was I saw a coin sell that had a similar look to it. It was struck a bunch of times that it flattened out the coin and made it to where the edges were similar. You could still make out the coin but it had a similar effect not the same but similar. I e never messed with these kinds of errors before so these were out of my wheel house. I love this hobby but there just isn’t enough time In The day to learn about every error. I do this for fun bud :)

But if you are interested I could dig through my history to find the example. To a trained eye like yourself I’m sure it will look nothing alike. You know I studied the mint process and a lot of the suggested reading material but I haven’t created that mental connection of the mint process and the error and how they relate yet. Because now that you guys point all this out it make sense, how would this happen during the minting process… well it wouldn’t . Learning is part of the fun. Mastery can’t be achieved without the “naive apprentice” faze! AnywYs thank you for your time and God bless!
