Hello,
I have a difficult time discerning the difference between DDO/ DDR and machine doubling. I found this 1971 D Kennedy Half in my son's pocket change. Which is it?

One thing you can do, is that while looking at the coin rotate it either-clock wise or counter-clock-wise. If the "doubling" disappears then it is not a Doubled Die. (This little test works 99.9% of the time)

What DScoins says is true on some types of doubling, but MD pretty much shows up at any angle usually. MD is an actual, physical alteration of the surface metal by the movement of the machine and die. Here is another image that will help. Sal already posted the other one I typically post:
