1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. 2021 D ddr?
I think i may have found a doubled die reverse on a 2021 Denver penny. The pics are not that great, I had to zoom in alot because the lettering is so small. If you look at the LB below the shield its seems alot thicker than normal. What do you guys think?
The last pic is a regular strike..

Re: 2021 D ddr?
I do not see a Doubled Die. I see Machine Doubling. If you are using a USB Microscope you will find something like this very small detail on just about every coin you search. You should search for know varieties and errors to learn what they look like before you search for obscure varieties. A few good sites you can learn about what is and isn't a Doubled Die is:
Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties
Variety Vista
Error-Ref
PCSG for varieties and errors that they will recognize

Re: 2021 D ddr?
Ok. I guess I was expecting machine doubling to make the design smaller or thinner instead of thicker

Re: 2021 D ddr?
You are correct in that MD will make the actual letters thinner.Ok. I guess I was expecting machine doubling to make the design smaller or thinner instead of thicker
With the pictures posted, it is still hard, at least for me, to see if the "doubled" area is a flat/smeared shelf. Are those areas tapered like the original letters, or are they a flat shelf?

It is hard to me to say for certain but I'm not thinking so..I guess the bottom of the B could have some but those holes in the B seem to show distortion.

Re: 2021 D ddr?
Sorry, pics are just too fuzzy to venture a good guess. I don't think those are notches, but impossible to say for certain with those the pics. :(

Re: 2021 D ddr?
Sorry about the pictures. I'll post 3 more close ups and leave it at that for this topic. I posted 2 upside down for a different view.

Re: 2021 D ddr?
I don't think you should spend too much time worrying about it.......
Would you consider it so minor that it would be called inconsequential?
