Coin was in the ground at one time and why it is red, die cracks don't add interest or a value to a coin. You must weigh coins as well.

Please look up online for a picture of a coin die crack. Although the picture is to fuzzy to see for sure, what I can see does not look like a die crack. The other mark looks like it might just be where the coin took a hit in circulation.

No coin leaving the mint will be the color of this coin. It cannot happen b/c of the elements in the quarter and the processes the mint uses in making coins.

I do not know how you can assure this 7 year old quarter was never in the ground, but I will take your word for it. But I can tell you something environmental acted upon the coin to change/stain it to this color.

This kind of thing is commonly posted on coin forums with people asking if they have a mint error or not. Metal detectorists have had the personal experience of digging many coins that have this type of coloring.

Like Earl42 has stated This coin did not come from the Mint that color. Your weight of 5.53 grams is more than likely do to environmental damage. As for it being a medal detection coin. I went medal detecting for over 15 years before my health stop me. I have found literally 100's of coins that looked just like this. Will have to take your word on it. No matter how you split it, it is not a error coin. PMD
