I need help with this 1937 Wheat Penny...

#1 Unread post by UrbanDecay04 »

I found this 1937 Wheat Penny in my change jar but there's something weird about it... It's severely underweight, extraordinarily thin, but still has all of it's details... Is this an example of a thin planchet? And if so, what's it worth? If not, was this dipped in acid and still somehow retained all of its details?

I'm just guessing here, the new images are fuzzy when I expand them:
possible acid soak?

Maybe... But how would the details still be there? Maybe just wore them down but didn't completely obliterate the coin?

Used to acid soak coins in various acids in chemistry class to show which acids affect which substances. Uniform dissolving of the surface of the coins makes the details uniformly wear off.
