1976 d silver penny?

#1 Unread post by Birdyq »

Hi I'm new to all this but couldn't find any information about this penny that was found in a roll of pennies. It weighs alittle over 3 grams and looks uncirculated. Any help would be appreciated. I have it in a plastic bag that's shows wrinkles on the coin.

Well, I looked it up and this what I got :
Is simply a regular 1976-D Lincoln cent that has been coated/plated with silver. Coating/plating regular circulation coins with a Gold or Silver layer is a common practice done by individuals for multiple reasons.

Likely nickel plated. Possible high school chemistry class experiment. I used to do them with my students. No added value.

It's plated the weight tells you it's not silver.
