half kennedy, no clad.

#1 Unread post by ace1153 »

Hey, Being a new collector to coins, i have alot of questions but i don't want to bother people to much, so i just ask the ones i really don't know about. I have a half Kennedy without the clad on both sides and also it is missing the reeded edge. For the missing reeded edge, i believe it is a real error but the missing clad, i don't know. I have some pictures that are not the best but i ordered a usb microscope to take better ones if needed. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

This appears to be environmental damage.

As for the "Reeded Edge", when I enlarge your images, I can't see the edge well enough to render a decision

Why does everyone think they need a USB Microscope to search coins?

There is no way for this coin to have come from the mint with a rim such as this. The coin minting process has no way for this to happen. Please look up spooning as just one possible way the reeded edge was takne off of this coin. People do all sorts of things to coins for their own reasons and a lot of them have us scratching our heads.

You can see how your rim has been dinged up. The entire condition of this half dollar shows it has had a rough "life." The rim's edge on top and bottom has been worn off, the faces are both discolored, wear is all over the coin.

There is no added value to this. It is not an error. It is a badly damaged coin. Keep looking :)

Stuff like this doesn't happen at the mint, error-ref.com and look up missing clad layer and you can see this coin isn't the same thing or any mint error for that matter.
