1973 D Lincoln Cent

#1 Unread post by JonC »

Here is another interesting one. Got this one from an ammo can of pennies that was my grandfathers penny stash. I am sure of the Wide collar and RPM and confident about the reverse doubling on the columns. Was not so sure about obverse issues. Thoughts on all areas?

This is a normal cent. This is the reason you go to doubleddie.com and look up image of a 1973 with a doubldie to compare. You can use coppercoin.com and CONECA as well.

Very interesting. Just found another one like it but does not appear to have a RPM. This one but does have a wide collar. I do check at variety vista, error ref, ken potter, and Wexlers info and a few more for comparison before posting. Saw the 1973 D RPM and the wide collar on err-ref.com and on varieties and errors. Here is the pics of the second one. I tried to draw an arrow or circle what I am seeing on this one. As always great information here. I have just begun to learn.

It's not a wide collar but a little misaligned and well within mint tolerances. Also, if you did use all those websites then you would know there's not a doubled die reverse listed. In this forum we don't attribute new varieties, in that, I still do not see a doubled die here.
If you still do not agree with me then you must post it at CONECA on their website forum.

I do not see a doubled die either. Just a plain every day cent.

I agree with the above - just a normal cent. Maybe some slight machine doubling or reflection doubling on the posts - pics not conclusive.

Thank you for the response. I have found 13 similar 1973 D in all so far. Here are 8 pictures of dipper different coins. If you look at the bottom left of the B and the thickness of the Y along with the other letters specifically the ER they seem similar markings. I do realize it is hard to judge on pictures alone and they are not always as they seem. As I look at these objectively I see similarities but again I am looking at the actual coins. A little back history. My grandfather lived in Texas and most of the coins he had were D mintmark. He did not get the chance to look at all of them before he passed but was a penny collector.

These are not doubled dies but strike doubling and circulation damaged from contact.
