1942 Mercury Dime, Die Cut?

#1 Unread post by collector old »

This 1942 Mercury Dime looks to have a die cut through the bundle on the reverse side of it. Need an opinion on it and any advice about getting it graded or selling it? Thanks!

1. Please use direct pictures instead of monitor pics as the monitor puts lines into the pics and kills actual details.

2. The pics make it look like simple damage from circulation.

3. There appears to be a mistake in the idea of what grading companies are for...and many people lose money b/c of this idea.
a. Grading companies assign grades to coins. They do not identify possible errors. However, the companies would gladly accept your money to send this one back to you in a "body bag" as "damaged."
b. If your coin were an actual error, the grading companies would not identify or acknowledge the error (still accepting you money), but simply grade the coin.
c. An actual error has to be identified by the person submitting the coin and then pay a fee for this to be on the label. However, even the companies people consider the best have proven to have some inept "experts" when it comes to identifying all but the most common errors. I sometimes have to wonder if they deliberately just put the error as requested on the label b/c the companies make more money from it.

The paper my signature links to proves the ineptitude of the companies in this area using PCGS's own data and statements (linked to) from their websites. Yes..."THE experts" are not exactly what people "assign" them as being.
