1859 or 1869 III cent silver
This is admittedly a fairly worn coin. It was in my mom's collection, which she'd inherited from her uncle.
it looks like the date may have been tampered with - or simply just very worn out. Any / all assistance in determining the date is appreciated.
I'm including two photos of the obverse, and one of the reverse. In advance, thank you.
Kind regards
Michael

Re: 1859 or 1869 III cent silver
Hi Paul
yes the coin is silver, but I don't follow that that means it must be a 1859. Three cent silver coins were minted until 1873, weren't they?
Please note - I'm not saying it has to be a 1869 - I honestly don't know what the date is, which is why I sent the initial message.
regards

1869 Trimes are a LOT harder to find than 1859 Trimes
Mintage
1859: 364,200 Circulation Strikes with 800 Proofs
1869: 4,500 Circulation Strikes with 600 Proofs

Okay, I'm just going to use the image you posted...... which looks like an 1869.......
I would need to see this firsthand to give you a more accurate guesstimate of the date

It's not authentic and a counterfeit. You can send it to ANACS to verify this for a second opinion.

Hi
Thank you both Paul and Daniel. I can conclude, based on your comments, that its not authentic. I don't think there's a need to send it to ANACS or anywhere.

Re: 1859 or 1869 III cent silver
Have you had a chance to test its magnetism?
...... or have you had the chance to get a accurate weight?
I was just looking at the "Shield", and wondering if it was just the picture?
