Concerning description given about gold dollars edge lettering positions A and B

#1 Unread post by Goldengreek »

Hello, new here. I recently noticed as I Google a question about the difference between "Position A" vs. "Position B" on the edge lettering on the Presidential Gold Dollar, and found the answer given here is in error. Per PCGS website, they are, as of 2007, acknowledging the two differences as Variety A and B, where B is when the coin is face up, the edge lettering is read normally, and Position A, when face up, the edge lettering is upside down. Just a friendly FYI, in case you wish to change the way it is stated per this site.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I did search the Errors and Varieties topics and could not find where anyone had already addressed this in the past. Please forgive me if this is a repeat topic. ~Steve (Goldengreek)

What's the error? PCGS has it listed but it's 50/50 in the mintage and is not something that adds value unless it's a certain year and mint with edge lettering error like doubled or weak, and sometimes one of these positions is more rare with A or B edge lettering orientation. It's a type and not a variety.

The Type A and B are not a error. Due to the the way edge lettering was done, it is common for either type to show up. Yes PCGS does recognize both A and B but not as a error. If you would have looked into it further, you would have seen the the Type A and B are the same price. Where the difference comes in is for the Parcel Edge Lettering, missing Edge Lettering along with Doubled Edge Lettering. Other then the latter 3, there is nothing special with the edge lettering. Before you tried to set the "Experts" straight you might have done your home work first. The last thing I want to say. When trying to correct the experts, you should also know what the coin you are refereeing to is composed of. They are not a Golden Dollar as there is no gold in them. They are minted with 6% Zinc, 3.5% Manganese 2% Nickel, Balance Copper are called just Presidential Dollars. The experts you are trying to correct have more experience then 95% of anyone else on this forum. Along with that, we are very lucky to have them here to answer our questions.

Sorry everyone for the rant, just can't stand someone dissing those we respect and share their valuable time to help us.
