Man made or Rim Restricted First strike?

#1 Unread post by Tabkatt »

Hopefully I'm not going to sound too new by asking this question but here I go.
I have a quarter that I cant tell if it is man made damage ie... counterfeit or possibly a rim restricted first strike?
My eyes aren't trained that well yet.
Could I get an opinion?
Thanks.

Also weighs 5.21 would that suggest someone intentionally grinding? Also so that I can gain the knowledge how would you differentiate the 2. To my untrained eyes I can hardly see the difference?

It's very obvious this is Post Mint Damage . Just the Scratches alone tells you that someone ground it down .

That makes utter sense . I guess I just dont think of people being that shady. I mean who does that? That you very much for your knowledge. I will be more scrutinizing in the future.

Yes, just post mint damage.
Since most people are not coin enthusiasts looking for errors and anomalies, I would suggest being shady is not the goal. I remember even as a kid having spare time in the summer with a bunch of tools and some change. I also remember wondering what one of each denomination would look like flattened by the passing trains nearby (and finding out...much more than once 😜).

You can see the rim of yours has no reeding. This could be where someone was "spooning" the coin with the intention of making a ring. And for some reason, sometimes people just wonder "what if?"

100% damaged by the hands of a person outside the mint.
