.1980 proof set error that is extraordinary

#1 Unread post by Timothy Eugene »

Hello everyone. My name is Tim Heick (pronounced hike) and I am from Butte, Montana.
My topic is a1980 proof set error on the Jefferson Nickel.
I haven't viewed one like it. I belive the entire coin is possibly double die with an extra edge stamp on the outside round edge. Like the part you would stand it up on and roll it.
It is still in the proof set and i haven't removed it.
Daniel, your input appreciated and anyone else.
I am attaching some pics taken through plastic.
I would like to auction this Coin off or entire set. Advice?
Thank-you all for some input.
P.s., the stamp on the side is a D and E I believe.

No one can tell you what's going on with the coin in the holder and based on images, some coins need to be looked at in hand.

I see what you're talking about on the reverse @ K9-10 ......

As Daniel has mentioned, there's no way to determine exactly what you have with images posted

Can I remove the 1980 nickel in the proof set, take new and better pictures, resend them, and get advice again? It is pretty amazing up close through the case.

I forgot to say Thank-you! So I thank you both. It is hard out here in Montana where its pretty much just Big Sky Country. I have so many error coins also. 1914 through 1925 pennies with no mint mark.
I believe I have the exact, 1975 dime that sold for 500,000. I have many other .50 cents, 1.00 76's, 71 Ikes, 1982 and 83's, etc...sure is hard to do on a phone

You have a 1975 no S proof dime in the mint packaging? Interesting in seeing a photo of that please (dime in the mint packaging).

Please take this as being the friendly helpful remark it is meant to be.
This statement makes me believe some time researching specific coins will be good for you. 1914 through 1925 pennies with no mint mark are common and were made at the Philadelphia mint. Nowadays Philly uses a P (except on cents!), but before 1980 it was only on (some) nickels minted during WWII.

Also please spend some time on error-ref.com to find out how to identify actual, hobby-sought errors. 😊
