Hi everyone,
I came across this penny looks like a die chip not familiar with the professional term. Is this a coin to save?
Thanks

Re: 1983 D penny
Are you referring to the die crack in the hair?

Yes, that comment sounds accurate. But probably a rookie mistake. I cleaned the coin with vinegar and now you can't see the silver chip. Maybe it was silver under there and it didn't like the vinegar? Maybe a rule never clean a coin if you think it has a unique mark??

Paul, after looking deeper at the coin, I now see what you saw. Literally a crack in his hair. I can see that. Why I sent the photo was the silver crack in the "we trust" area. I will research the die crack. Thank you!

Please research cleaning coins here on this forum. If this had been an expensive coin, the vinegar could have ruined its value. Daniel has some video about it.

Earle42,
Thank you! I have watched many videos on how to clean. I will check out the one you mentioned.
