1988 p “spitting eagle

Ok I get dinged often for my vernacular as well as my presentation of something spectacular. No its not gold but this is the best example of these I have found yet, i have an 83, but it needs better light and photo equipment to share it. These pics are with my IPAD.

Hey C, the thing about finding these sorts of errors, is that if we are sure they are actually an error that adds value, we should send them to CONECA to be evaluated, and that puts an end to the discussion. I will say that the line under the beak looks raised, and may indicate a die crack, but it does not mean it is a "spitting eagle", it might only be a "drooling eagle". I can tell you that NGC only attributes two '68, and they are both DDRs. So there is that.

Thanks , I was unaware that these were put into so many categories, oh yeah it is raised, and the best part is it can be seen by the naked eye. I have another that is a 1983, it takes a little more to see , but again it also can be seen by eye and yes they are both raised as light passes over them they show a shadow behind the hill. Thanks to you and someone else who explained to someone else to do the light test.

Hey C, I was just joking about the "drooling eagle" bit, although sometimes I wonder how many categories the "experts" can find for one coin. The best thing to do if you are hunting is to hunt for known varieties rather than hoping you find something new. Even within varieties, some add no value, they are just interesting.

There are a lot of coins that suffer die cracks, clashes, etc. But out of these, there are only a certain number that draw the attention of the majority. It doesn't mean it has no added value, but you would have to right collector who really wanted it for you to get max value.

Again, to iterate the reiteration, look for known varieties, you will be waaaaay ahead of the game. 🐬🏈

They can find as many as they need to make money by offering to label them.

Suit yourself . Paul says damage, then it's damaged . Many people know about this.... anomaly and try to fake it thinking they will make money on it . Send it in . That's the only way to find out I guess, right ?
