Mint errors
I have found what I believe is a Doubled Die on a 2020 quarter. I believe it is a Parks Commemorative quarter. I have included some pics.
It may be helpful to know that I used a 30x and scope on my standard android camera app with zoom. My scope lights the coin only from one side. I can often see coin issues only when the scope light is facing a particular direction. This is an irritation to me. Do you have any suggestions about solving the lighting from one direction problem?
At what magnification is heading done at?
I also use 10x, 15x, 20x, and 25x to look at coins. Sometimes I can only see issues while using 20x, 25x or 30x magnification. Is this an issue? Do I need to have more magnification?
I have visited Wexlers site and have begun reading about Dubled Die and Ie errors. It is very extensive and informative. I hope yo be asking fewer questions in the future.
I have included a pic of the entire coin so that you know what coin series the pics come from.
So, My question is, based on the pics I have attached, is this a mint error coin?
Thank you in advance for any help you may have.

Hmm.. This is sort of tough since the design is incuse or sunken in. I'm guessing MD or Mechanical doubling .http://www.doubleddie.com/144822.html

Re: Mint errors
Sorry, to answer the rest : I use a triple loupe and use the 10x mostly , sometime 20x I believe. That's for inspecting and for close up I use a USB microscope by Dino - lite with stand . Most of the time for Pics , all you need is a good cell phone and sometimes I use the cell in combo with the Loupe .

Re: Mint errors
Thank you for your reply. Please forgive me when I ask what a USB score is and it's advantages? I am very new to this coin collecting. I am still reading and watching videos to learn all I can. So far not a lot of positive finds to speak of. I did find a Proof Susan B. Anthony when I 0got change for a $20 at the car wash 2 weeks ago. Today I got a Proof Native American 2009 D. I haven't looked at that one at all. Both from the same car wash.

Thank you SensibleSal66. I will see if I can find any info on Wexlers site. I am reading about Doubled Die now, when I can.SensibleSal66 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:57 am Hmm.. I can only assume that this is either a rare find or a first find. I am pretty certain there is something there the mint didn't plan to do. Perhaps I need to mail it to someone or find a local dealer.
Thanks again

Re: Mint errors
No expert here just my opinion.
You’re using too much magnification. 5-10x is what is used by the grading companies.
Using extreme magnifying as well as lighting can show things that really aren’t there or are so small not defined enough to be classified as an error.
Again I’m a novice and just my opinion.
Also proof coins depending on year have S mint mark. No proofs that I know of have a D Mark. The 1999 Susan B Anthony has a P mark for proof.

Re: Mint errors
Why is there two different coins in this topic? Please, we need one coin per topic. Your 1943 has a contact mark on has been replated or something but it is not an over digit.
I also ask in the email to please post front and back of the half dollar so we can see if the obverse has any issue.
Thanks!

Re: Mint errors
I am finding others just like the first one I pictured and posted on the 22nd. Some more extreme or defined than others. Not all on the same letters. Nearly all have it on the letters of the state. Various states. Many have it on other letters. Other than the state letters.
I will post a few examples. Look for my post of pictures here I guess? I can see the variety or error or whatever with a 5x, but it is difficult to see unless one stops and looks closely.
