Ok. Here's my story (short ) about the ugly Trade Dollar .
So, I purchase this trade Dollar for about a hundred bucks . It's obviously cleaned ? Ahh, I can't tell with all that "ugly Toning " going on . Can you ? It has the same doubling on the reverse as the book shows ( CherryPicker's Guide ) . Did I do a good Job ? What's your take on buying those (some beautiful rainbows ) Toned Coins ? This one was a tough choice between buying one costing hundreds or more of a "sampler" coin. Maybe next purchase , lol .
Check out the obvious doubling on the reverse. Yes, they made a lot of them doubled. I'm assuming because they were often struck more than once as Daniel's Video shows. How the heck do they grade these coins (net was XF details PCGS # 26325808, for better pics ) ?
P.S Don't pay attention to the UFO's to the south and expand the second pic please.

Hard to see how the coin form the first pic - the plastic really distorts it. It also appears your camera is slightly tilted.
Toning you ask?
I agree some coins can be beautifully rainbow toned (a better and marketable term for "tarnish"). I understand why people like collecting them. My personal fear is I would end up making a mistake in storing them and end up with (an expensive) black finish after years pass.
One of my few slabbed coins is an example of the same with XF40 on the label.

Doubled dies are not from a coin being struck more than once. Here's my video on that.
