Error Id Help

#1 Unread post by Jsul77798 »

So yes, this is nitpicky. Not about value, just trying to understand things better. So I have a 1968 Lmc. IGWT, Liberty and the date are very tight to thd rim. On error ref they show a 1982 Lmc with a Die error called Peripheral Die Expansion and Erosion. They mention their only confirmed example is on the 1982 example but may be on other dates. They dont specify zinc or copper. Is my 1968 showing evidence of this error? It only shows this on the obv. Error ref 1982 example is on both sides but does not specify if it caan only happen on 1 side. Being the result of die deterioration, Id think it could be any make up since 1 die could be swapped out but still have the other with more wear.
Again, this is minor. This is nitpicky. But im trying to better my knowledge.
So is my 1968 a result of this die error? Or a result of regular wear? I measured it with a mic against a normal cent and there is no dif in circumference.
Thanks for any insight!!

In your research, was there any mention of a "Improperly Hardened Die" ??

First off, I didnt think I posted this. I was working on it but had more pics to add, such as the 1982 example, and other general pics of my coin and thought it just got saved as a draft. But seeing as it DID post somehow and you understand my question, No. I am not finding anything on "Improperly hardened dies". I see nothing on error ref, or the Alan Herbert books I have and am not finding anything helpful with a google search of that term. Is there a different name for it?
So would that be a "soft" or "hard" die? I would think a softer die would spread out its design devices earlier than intended and without carrying the other typical LSD traits. Is that what is happening or am i just way off? Lol....Thank you very much for your insight!!!

I came upon "Surface level die deformation" error which seems to address "soft dies", improperly annealed die. The result though is a deformation of certain devices rather than a " pushing out ". Just mentioning it. You may be referring to a " hard die ", which i have not found info on.
Thanks
