Re: ALMOST THERE .... 50,000
The listing for 1.56 Mil is tempting, but 15 bucks shipping on top of it? That’s a deal breaker...

People think because one exist they can establish a value for something on their own, or they're really not wanting to sell.

We are in the WRONG business and have entirely too many scruples between us all assembled here; otherwise, we might be rich... LOLZ!

Its like trying to move a mountain using a shovel...and will always be. People have not been taught to use their critical reasoning skills now for decades, so common sense is long gone. Even when I was young they were talking about the deliberate dumbing down of America in the education system.

Hey D, it's not that you can't reach people it's that people will not allow themselves to be reached. They know for a fact that you are coming between them and success beyond their wildest dreams, they also know that learning about coins isn't needed, all you need to do is find that one "unicorn", and you will be rich, rich I tell you

Re: ALMOST THERE .... 50,000
I’ve studied many and like to think mastered a few subjects in my lifetime. Throughout the process of learning and perfecting my skill/ subject it was always true that for the vast majority of the people studying, training or working along side me they typically possessed at a minimum, common sense. However in my short time attempting to learn about the minting process and all that comes with it I’ve learned that so many people out here in internet land have ZERO interest in learning ANYTHING. They simply want someone else to do the work for them and to reassure them they’ve found BIGFOOT, that unicorn in the sky… that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow etc. I cannot imagine sitting for hours, days , weeks etc staring at coins with absolutely zilch idea of what I’m even looking for. I know I did it for apx 2 weeks and almost ran myself MAD lol I’ve seen some ridiculous grasping at straws like I’ve NEVER seen with any other subject. Then you have the crooks who sell “error” coins or “extremely rare” coins for exuberant prices and there are people ( same people REFUSING to learn) actually watching these sales and sometimes even purchasing. Most times I just laugh but I find myself getting truly annoyed when the same people continue to ask the same questions or demand that they “know” … yet are asking others what they think online. Got me wondering why is this behavior so prevalent & redundant in the coin hobby world? So many resources out there , no valid excuses as to why the unwillingness to learn. Ok I’m done ranting. I promise to not unload again for at least 90 more days
Ps… if I were to look at EVERY coin under a microscope I would be GUARANTEED to find “something” that is literally “nothing” every-time. I think the overuse of digital microscopes by us that are not fully vetted is so much of the problem going on.

Re: ALMOST THERE .... 50,000
I remember being taught the concept of “context clues” in 3rd grade… of course that was 100 years ago when “critical thinking” skills helped determine ones success in this life lolEarle42 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 11:31 pm Its like trying to move a mountain using a shovel...and will always be. Re: ALMOST THERE .... 50,000
Agreed!
I was a math teacher for years and was so very frustrated even by most other math teachers who cannot even tell where the formulas they teach come from b/c they lost the concept that every formula was simply a derived tool for speed (a hammer to drive and instead of trying to push it in by hand).
For example they would teach the kids to memorize why anything divided by 0 is "undefined." I even questioned teachers on this...how do you KNOW its undefined besides the book just saying so?
..."Well...its in the book!"
And these are the teachers...uh huh. Kiss critical thinking goodbye.
Their eyes would sometimes widen (if they cared to be taught!), when I asked them what dividing means?
Them: "Dividing means breaking into smaller parts."
Me: So dividing by 2 means breaking into 2 parts right?"
Them: Yes.
Me: And dividing by 3 means breaking into 3 parts right?
Them: Yes.
Me: Here is a pencil...would you mind breaking it, or dividing it, into zero parts for me?
Them: ????? What? That's impossible.
Me.: No...its "undefined."
How simple, yet how foreign to modern America.
Now forgive this rant! It struck close to home.
Krushchev in the 50s said they would infiltrate our education system, kill critical thinking (hence government dependency the norm), and make the US an entertainment-FIRST society so as to aid their taking us over.
And now they are rewriting our history in school classes...critical thinking skills long gone make it easy.

My prediction is the date will be in direct proportion to how fast the present brandon administration* created inflation continues and people are trying to find any way they can to make more money just to pay for gasoline to get to work.

Re: ALMOST THERE .... 50,000 On-Line Internet Auction
That must be awful for genuine error collectors.
I just scrolled through this and it reminded me of the McDonald's signs when I was a kid. I kept watching the number grow.

Re: ALMOST THERE .... 50,000 On-Line Internet Auction
As a kid I remember also watching the signs on McDonald's and keeping track of the numbers. Eventually they just went to saying "Billions and billions served." I suspect eBay will fall into the same category the way things are going.
