Welcome to the forum.

Yep, I agree with Palh1.
It could be legit but it is too easy for some to have done this before your father found it. A closeup of both sides of the coin gives us info to give accurate help.

It's possibly a straight clip so was struck on a planchet that was punched out of the edge of the coil stock. Here's a good reference to do a spot check http://www.error-ref.com/_straight_clips_/

Images of the edge are important.

Here are a few more pictures. They edge is smooth feeling and not jagged like it’s been cut.

That edge makes me think it was broken off (ductile failure)
A straight edge would be the end of the roll and smooth.

There are jagged straight edges, but this again does not look right.

"GRADE" here is really what the 'premium' will be (i hugeeyes some blemishes), but we need to determine if it is a 'true' clip,....
:eureka:
& if it's a "straight" or "ragged end" clip .... JMO

Here's my understanding, which is limited...

Ragged straight edge clip: there is a defect in the metal strip. When the punch strikes this defect (or near it), the metal snaps along the defect. While straight, overall, the edge is ragged:

End of roll straight edge clip: due to misalignment, the punch strikes past the end of the roll. This edge is initially straight and smooth, but may be less straight after press due to displaced metal and nothing to hold it back.

Your edge doesn't really match either of these effects.

I am not seeing the Blakesly effect, looks like there might be on the obverse but then the reverse is normal. A planchet missing this much metal would cause a weakness when struck on the opposing side of the coin.
