1982 D Lincoln Cent with Tall Rim and Squished Rim
Hi,
I'm not really a collector, but I found this penny - it looks like a partial collar broadstrike.
I think there may also be some post-mint damage (eg. a ding on obverse rim about 10 o'clock). Is this something that merits additional investigation?
Thank you
Jimboha

Weight is 2.485 gram.
Diameter is almost exactly the same as a regular penny (I put one on top of the other to compare).

It may not be evident in the photos, but the inner zinc core does show throw in the thin rim, where it pinches down from the rest of the coin.
I can post more photos from different angles if desired.

Looks like it got jammed into a mechanism that pinched and pushed on the coin, like a counting machine jam. This is not a US Mint production.
Re: 1982 D Lincoln Cent with Tall Rim and Squished Rim
That's what I thought when I first found it. You really think that such a jammed mechanism-induced damage would produce such well-shaped thick and thin rims? I do apologize for doubting your judgment, but I find it difficult to imagine that such a haphazard process would yield so regularly-shaped edges/rims (both of them).
I've attached some more photos if you want to see more. Would you take another look?
Thank you.

Just because one can’t imagine how it happened doesn’t mean it’s not damage. Can you imagine how it happened during the minting process? You need to ask yourself that question. You need to understand the minting process and that is more important than posting more images and posing a debate.
What happened to your coin doesn’t happen during the minting process or when something goes wrong during the minting process.

Watch this, post mint mechanical means can create smooth edges or rims like this. Although this isn’t what happened to your coin but it’s an example of what can happen.
