No date penny with strike through & off center?
Re: No date penny with strike through & off center?
Not sure. The rev almost looks like a struck thru capped die.

Definitely strange for sure. It really screams " Grease filled Die" somewhere in there. The reverse, I don't know. Anyone?

I thought it was cool. It will be a good reference coin for real life examples of mistakes. If anyone needs additional pictures. Let me know. Thank you everyone for looking and the excellent advice and knowledge.!

Re: No date penny with strike through & off center?
we collectors call a incorrectly made coin "errors" instead of 'mistakes". this is a very intresting coin, I agree to USSID for it looks like a struck though grease on the obverse and reverse capped die, and I did notice there seems to be a collar clash on the obverse, a lot going on here. waiting more exprienced people in errors to chip in.Mick Ian Hill wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 12:45 pm I thought it was cool. Ironically, I called them mistakes for the simple reason, I've read many post where someone has said "thats not an error". So I didn't want to be called to the carpet for using a industry term.

I read capped dies errors on their own can be valuable. With the other errors does it add additional value? Or is it worthless? Should I get it authenticated? Or just keep it? Errors coins don't fit into my collection anywhere. Thanks again everybody!

The correct term is Error. Are you sure that when they said it was not an error, they were referring to the coin as not being an error, and not saying that error is not the wrong term? The correct term is Error not mistake

Yes, if it's a true capped die or struck thru error it would hold more value. It won't be worthless. If it's not an error, it would still hold value as a learning tool.
Error coins don't have to fit into your collection, make them fit. You can make a separate category. That's what I did. I had blank holes in the back of some of my album and put them there with labels.

Not you sir. You didn't say anything. Im talking in general how these boards ( all-not just this one) can be brutal to us newbies or casual hunters. Im sorry if I offended anyone. I appreciate all comments and input.

You didn't insult anyone. Just curios if you got confused on how they used the term. As in saying it was not an error coin or saying this is not (called) an error coin but a mistake. If it the later then I would question whoever it was that made statements knowledge.Mick Ian Hill wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 3:45 pm Not you sir. You didn't say anything. Re: No date penny with strike through & off center?
Good point. I'll keep it as a momento of a the hours I've been looking at 20k+ (how many pennies fit into a 3 gallon glass jug and a another 2qt jar) pennies under a microscope. You're right. It dosen't need to be valuable to be a really cool coin (in my opinion).
